Blizzard has made its last big round of racial changes in WoW Forever before launch. The October 26 development notes rework Tauren Plainsrunning into a 60% sprint, rebuild Skyborne Skysight and Read Leyline around new one-hour buffs, bring back Orc Command, give Dwarfs hit chance instead of critical damage, and cut Human crit in half. They landed the day before name reservation opened on October 27, so if you're still choosing a race, this is the list to read. Here is every WoW Forever race change, what Plainsrunning and Skysight do now, and what it all means for your damage and healing.

WoW Forever racial changes: the short version
- Tauren: Plainsrunning now gives 2% movement speed per stack, up to 60% (was 1% and 30%), but no longer works mounted. Endurance is now only 5% more health.
- Skyborne: Skysight is 15% movement speed for 15 seconds, or 30% while Charged; Read Leyline is 50% regeneration, or 100% while Attuned. Wind-Blessed haste drops from 3% to 2%.
- Orc: Savage (1% crit) is removed and Command is back: Warlock and Hunter pets deal 5% more damage.
- Dwarf: Earth Fury (2% critical damage and healing) is removed; new Artisan's Precision gives 1% hit.
- Human: Ruthless drops from 2% to 1% crit; The Human Spirit doubles from 5% to 10% Spirit.
- Unchanged: Night Elf, Gnome, Undead and Troll.
Why Blizzard changed the races again
Blizzard reworked the racials once already this month - the October 15 notes replaced the weapon specializations with generic bonuses like Ruthless and Savage (see our article on that change). In the October 26 notes, the developers say players told them some of the new traits felt too generic, while others worried some were simply stronger than the rest. Their answer:
we've prioritized racial identity, which means that some races will naturally be slightly more effective than others at certain combat roles.— WoW: Forever developers, Racial Abilities and Traits Tuning, October 26, 2026
Weapon specializations are not coming back, though. The developers explain why:
it is not healthy in the long run for future raid and dungeon loot tables to be evaluated through the lens of "required" weapon types.— WoW: Forever developers, October 26, 2026
WoW Forever Plainsrunning: the Tauren changes
Plainsrunning is the Tauren's out-of-combat sprint: the longer you keep running, the faster you go. The October 26 notes double it:
Plainsrunning now grants 2% movement speed per stack (was 1%), for a total max increase of 60% (was 30%).— WoW: Forever developers, October 26, 2026
Plainsrunning no longer increases mounted movement speed.— WoW: Forever developers, October 26, 2026
According to Kami Labs, a stack builds every 5 seconds of running, so reaching the 60% cap takes about two and a half minutes, and the bonus drops when you stop or take damage. Output Lag compares 60% to the speed of a level 40 ground mount, and reports that Tauren Druids are already asking what Travel Form is for. Earlier this month, the October 15 notes had also made sure you can't keep it going by stopping and starting - in the developers' words, "stutter-stepping is no longer sufficient to maintain the effect."
The other Tauren change goes the opposite way. Endurance had given Tauren 2% more critical damage and healing; now it does nothing beyond 5% more health. The notes say it no longer provides "any modifiers beyond 5% increased Health (no hit chance or critical damage modifiers)."
Skysight, Read Leyline and Wind-Blessed: the Skyborne changes
Skyborne have two movement and regeneration abilities, one for each of their groups - Warcraft Tavern lists Read Leyline for the Alliance-side High Order and Skysight for the Horde-side Windshapers. Both now work the same way: a short buff anywhere, and a stronger one-hour buff if you use them at the right place.
- Skysight: 15% movement speed for 15 seconds (was 10%). Used at an elemental convergence, it also grants Charged for 1 hour, and while Charged, Skysight gives 30% movement speed.
- Read Leyline: 50% more mana and health regeneration for 15 seconds (was 100%). Used at a Ley Line, it grants Attuned for 1 hour, and while Attuned the bonus is back to 100%. It can't be used while Innervate is active.
- Charged and Attuned persist through death, so one visit to a convergence or Ley Line lasts an hour of play.
- Wind-Blessed: the Skyborne haste passive drops from 3% to 2%.
Blizzard's notes don't say where Ley Lines or elemental convergences are, and none of the coverage we read lists them yet.
Orc, Dwarf and Human race changes
- Orc: "Savage removed (1% increased critical strike chance)." In its place, "Command re-added, increasing Warlock and Hunter pet damage by 5%." Blood Fury is unchanged.
- Dwarf: "Earth Fury (2% increased critical strike damage and healing) removed." New: "Artisan's Precision - Increases hit chance with spells and attacks by 1%."
- Human: "Ruthless now increases critical chance by 1% (was 2%)." And "Human Spirit now increases Spirit by 10% (was 5%)."
What the racial changes do to your DPS and healing
We put the new racials into our sim engine and re-ran every damage and healing spec in every race it can play - at level 60 in each spec's BiS List gear, 1,000 fights of 60 seconds per race - and compared each race with the same character with no racials.
- Night Elf is untouched and now adds the most on average (+2.3%). Elune's Light is the strongest damage racial in a short fight.
- Orc drops from +2.1% to +1.4% on average - but Beast Mastery Hunters gain, because Command is worth more to them than Savage was.
- Human halves, from +1.8% to +0.9%. Holy Paladin feels it most.
- Skyborne goes from +1.5% to +1.1%, Dwarf from +0.8% to +0.4%, and Tauren from +0.8% to nothing.
- Four specs have a new best race at level 60: Arcane and Frost Mage (Skyborne to Troll), Fire Mage (Human to Skyborne) and Enhancement Shaman (Orc and Skyborne to Troll).
Gnome's Eureka! and Undead's Touch of the Dead aren't simulated, so those two races may be a little stronger than the chart shows, and tanks aren't included because our tank numbers don't use racials.
Best race for every class after the changes
We wrote a full guide for every class, with every spec at level 60 and level 30:
- Best race for Mages: Troll and Skyborne, half a percent apart.
- Best race for Warlocks: Orc for Affliction and Demonology.
- Best race for Hunters: Orc for Beast Mastery, Night Elf for Marksmanship and Survival.
- Best race for Priests: Night Elf, with Human tied for Holy.
- Best race for Rogues: Night Elf for every spec.
- Best race for Warriors: Night Elf for Arms and Fury.
- Best race for Shamans: Orc (Elemental), Troll (Enhancement), Skyborne (Restoration).
- Best race for Paladins: Human, by about 1%.
- Best race for Druids: Night Elf for every spec.
