General

What is Forever Upgrades?

A free toolkit for World of Warcraft: Forever. It simulates your character with an engine built for your spec and shows which gear upgrades are worth it, your simulated DPS, HPS or effective health, BiS lists, talent builds and profession recipes. More on the About page.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Yes, everything is free, and there's no account or login.

Do I need to log in or give an API key?

No. Paste the public armory link of any character, or an export from our addon. If the armory is down, save the character page in your browser and upload the file.

Is this an official Blizzard site?

No. Forever Upgrades is a fan-made site and isn't affiliated with, endorsed or approved by Blizzard Entertainment.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Every page works on phones and tablets as well as on a PC.

Sims and upgrades

Why does it show “+X DPS” instead of my total DPS?

The number that matters when you pick gear is the difference: how much an item adds over the one you already wear. Your simulated total is shown once at the top of the results, and on the Sim DPS page.

Are the numbers exact?

They're simulations, so each has a small margin of error shown next to it, and some effects (mostly retail-only or location-only procs) are listed as “not simulated”. Use them to compare items and builds, not as a promise of what your meter will say.

How is a result worked out?

Your character fights a boss 1,000 times in the sim - the rotation, spell ranks, mana, talents, procs, trinkets and set bonuses for your spec - and the result is the average. The same character and options always give the same result, so two items are compared fairly.

How are healers and tanks scored?

Healers by healing per second into a raid mix (a tank plus a five-player party) with mana that has to last the fight. Tanks by effective health against a boss three levels above them: dodge, parry, block, armor and Defense all count.

What do fight length and target change?

Under Options you can pick a fight of 1, 2, 3 or 5 minutes and a target that's a boss (your level +3), an elite (+2) or the same level as you. Short fights favour burst cooldowns; higher-level targets make hit and weapon skill worth more.

Which talents does it use?

A default build for your spec and level - or your own build if you paste a talent calculator link under Options. An addon export already includes your talents, so they're used automatically.

What does “not simulated” mean?

An effect the sim can't model reliably, such as a proc that only works in one zone. Rather than guess, we list it with the result so you can judge it yourself.

The addon

What does the addon do?

It reads your character in game - class, spec, level, gear, enchants and talents - and turns it into a line of text you copy and paste into Find Upgrades or Sim DPS. Type /fup in game to open it. Get it on the Addon page.

Why use the addon instead of the armory?

The export is exactly what you're wearing right now, including talents, and it works even when the armory is slow, down or out of date.

Is the addon safe?

Yes. It only reads your own character and shows the text in a box for you to copy. It doesn't send anything anywhere, and it doesn't change any game settings.

My old export starts with !WOWDB: - does it still work?

Yes. Exports from the earlier version of the addon are still accepted. New exports start with !FUP:.

Rankings, BiS and talents

How are the spec rankings made?

At level 60, every spec wears its own BiS list - the Raid list (epic) or the Dungeon list (rare). At levels 50 and 30, every spec wears the same standard gear for its role. Then each one is simulated the same way. Click any spec in the rankings to see the gear, talents and buffs used.

How is the BiS list chosen?

For each slot, every item that spec can wear at that level is scored with the spec's simulated stat weights, and the best one wins - so it's ranked by the sim, not by guesswork. Pick a level of 30, 40, 50 or 60 on the BiS List page.

Are my talent builds saved?

Your build is kept in the page link, so you can bookmark or share it, and in your browser so it's there next time. Nothing is saved on our server.

Professions

Where does the recipe data come from?

From the World of Warcraft: Forever game data files: every recipe's skill level, reagents and where to learn it.

What is camping?

Camping is a profession new to World of Warcraft: Forever. Its recipes build things for your camp, and other professions add their own camp features too. See it on the Professions page.

Privacy and support

Do you save my character?

No. We use it only to answer your request and don't keep it afterwards. The site sets no cookies of its own. The privacy policy has the details.

Something looks wrong - what should I do?

Please report it with the armory link or addon export, the spec and what you expected. That's usually enough for us to reproduce and fix it.

How do I contact you?
