GuideWoW Forever Druid leveling guide: Feral Druid talent build from 10 to 60

This WoW Forever Druid leveling guide takes you from level 1 to 60 the fast way: as a Feral Druid, tanking mobs in Bear Form from level 10 and then shredding through quests in Cat Form from level 20. It covers the full Druid leveling talent build - every one of the 51 points, level by level - the reasons behind each choice, your Cat and Bear rotations, the spells to train, the consumables worth carrying, where to quest, and the tips that make a Druid one of the most flexible classes to level in World of Warcraft: Forever.

Druids changed a lot from the original game. Omen of Clarity is now a trainer spell rather than a talent, Feral Charge has a Cat version that leaps behind your target, and the Feral tree has new talents such as Berserk, Rend and Tear and Primal Bite. Faerie Fire (Feral) and Natural Weapons are gone. This guide uses the latest talent trees, from WoW Forever beta client build 1.60.1.70630.

WoW Forever Druid leveling guide: Feral Druid from level 1 to 60, with Bear Form at 10, Cat Form at 20, Leader of the Pack at 30, Berserk at 41 and all 51 talent points at 60
WoW Forever Druid leveling: Feral from 10 to 60.

WoW Forever Druid leveling guide: the short version

  • Spec: Feral Combat, with a Restoration side branch for Furor and Naturalist. Final build: 0/40/11.
  • Key talents: Ferocity at 10, Sharpened Claws at 20, Predatory Strikes at 25, Leader of the Pack at 30, Rend and Tear at 36 and Berserk at 41.
  • How you kill: Bear Form and Maul from 10 to 19, then Cat Form from 20: build combo points with Claw and Rake, finish with Rip or Ferocious Bite.
  • How you survive: drop out of form to heal with Rejuvenation, Regrowth and Healing Touch, or switch to Bear Form when a pull goes wrong.
  • Carry: water for your caster form, Healing and Mana Potions, Agility elixirs and bandages.

Druid strengths and weaknesses while leveling

Before the build, it helps to know what you're working with. A Druid is three classes in one - a caster, a tank and a melee damage dealer - and that flexibility is the reason Druid leveling is so smooth once Cat Form arrives.

Strengths

  • Self-healing. Rejuvenation, Regrowth and Healing Touch mean you can top yourself up between pulls instead of eating, as long as your mana holds.
  • Two melee forms. Bear Form (level 10, from a class quest) soaks damage; Cat Form (level 20) deals it. You can swap between them in the middle of a fight.
  • Stealth. Prowl (level 20) lets you sneak past mobs to quest objectives, and opens fights with Ravage or Pounce later on.
  • Travel forms. Aquatic Form (level 16, from a class quest) and Travel Form (level 30) save a lot of time before your mount.
  • Omen of Clarity. It's baseline from level 20: "Your spells and attacks have a chance to grant you Clearcasting, reducing the Mana, Rage, or Energy cost of your next damage or healing spell or offensive ability by 100%. Clearcasting is not consumed by Wrath or by spells or abilities that cost no resources."
  • Group demand. A Feral Druid can tank dungeons in Bear Form, and Leader of the Pack raises the critical strike chance of your whole group.

Weaknesses

  • Shapeshifting costs mana. Cat Form and Bear Form each cost 55% of base mana, so dropping out to heal and shifting back adds up quickly.
  • No healing in form. Every heal means leaving Cat or Bear Form, and every return costs mana again.
  • Slow levels 10 to 19. Bear Form is tough but kills slowly; Druid leveling really speeds up at 20 with Cat Form.
  • Leather armor. Cat Form takes more damage than Bear Form, so pulling two or three mobs at once in Cat Form is risky.
  • Lots of keybinds. Three forms, each with its own action bar, plus caster spells - it takes some getting used to.

The full WoW Forever Druid leveling build at 60: 0 Balance, 40 Feral Combat, 11 Restoration. Hover a talent for its tooltip.

Open it in our talent calculator - the level 60 Druid leveling build - to read every tooltip. The calculator links in each bracket below show the build at that level.

WoW Forever gives you your first talent point at level 10 and one more every level after that - 51 points by 60. Each row of a tree needs 5 more points in that tree before it opens, so the bottom row of the Feral tree, Berserk, needs 30 points in that tree. Talents that teach a new ability put it straight into your spellbook.

Timeline of WoW Forever Druid leveling talents by level: 10-14 Ferocity, 15-17 Thick Hide, 18-19 Feral Swiftness, 20-21 Sharpened Claws, 22-23 Savage Fury, 24 Feral Charge, 25-27 Predatory Strikes, 28-29 Blood Frenzy, 30 Leader of the Pack, 31-35 Heart of the Wild, 36-40 Rend and Tear, 41 Berserk, 42-43 Natural Instinct, 44-48 Furor, 49-53 Naturalist, 54-56 Feral Instinct, 57-58 Brutal Impact, 59 Primal Bite, 60 Natural Shapeshifter
Every Druid leveling talent point from 10 to 60.

Levels 10 to 20: Bear Form and Ferocity

Points: 11, all Feral Combat - level 20 build.

  • 10-14: Ferocity 5/5. "Reduces the cost of your Maul, Primal Bite, Swipe, Claw, and Rake abilities by 5 Rage or Energy." Maul is your main Bear attack at this level, and later Claw and Rake cost less Energy too - every point keeps paying off once Cat Form arrives.
  • 15-17: Thick Hide 3/3. "While in Bear Form, Cat Form, Dire Bear Form, or Moonkin Form, you gain 3 additional base Armor per level and another 2.00 base Armor for each point of defense skill beyond five times your level. This amount can be further increased by multipliers from those forms." More armor in both forms means less damage taken and fewer heals between pulls.
  • 18-19: Feral Swiftness 2/2. "Increases your movement speed while in Cat Form by 30%, and increases your chance to Dodge by 4%." The dodge helps right away, and from level 20 the Cat Form speed makes running between quests much faster.
  • 20: Sharpened Claws 1/2. "Increases your critical strike chance while in Bear Form, Dire Bear Form, or Cat Form by 3%." More crits mean more combo points from Blood Frenzy later and more Rage in Bear Form.

Bear Form comes from a Druid class quest at level 10 - check the Druid quest page for the chain. Until then you level as a caster: open with Wrath, add Moonfire, and finish in melee.

Why Thick Hide before Heart of the Wild? Heart of the Wild is five points for Intellect and Stamina or Strength, depending on your form, but Thick Hide's armor matters more while you're tanking every mob in Bear Form. Heart of the Wild comes in at 31.

Level 10 to 20 tip: Pull with Wrath or Moonfire from range, shift into Bear Form as the mob reaches you, then use Demoralizing Roar and Maul. Enrage (level 12) gives you Rage at the start of a fight - use it before the pull so you can Maul straight away.

Levels 21 to 30: Cat Form, Predatory Strikes and Leader of the Pack

Points: 10, all Feral Combat - level 30 build.

  • 21: Sharpened Claws 2/2. "Increases your critical strike chance while in Bear Form, Dire Bear Form, or Cat Form by 6%."
  • 22-23: Savage Fury 2/2. "Increases the damage caused by your Claw, Rake, Shred, Maul, and Swipe abilities by 10%." Ten percent more damage on almost every Cat and Bear attack you use.
  • 24: Feral Charge. "Charge an enemy, immobilizing them and interrupting any spell they are casting for 4 sec. Feral Charge (Cat): 8-25 yd range, Instant, 30 sec cooldown, Requires Cat Form. Leap behind an enemy." The Cat version leaps behind your target, which sets up Shred, Ravage and Pounce.
  • 25-27: Predatory Strikes 3/3. "Increases your melee Attack Power in Cat Form, Bear Form, and Dire Bear Form by 150% of your level." At level 27 that's about 40 extra Attack Power, and it grows every level.
  • 28-29: Blood Frenzy 2/2. "Gives you a 100% chance to gain an additional 5 Rage any time you get a critical strike while in Bear Form or Dire Bear Form. In addition, your non-periodic critical strikes from Cat Form abilities that generate Combo Points have a 100% chance to add an additional Combo Point." With Sharpened Claws, your crits now build combo points much faster.
  • 30: Leader of the Pack. "While in Cat Form, Bear Form, or Dire Bear Form, the Leader of the Pack increases the melee and ranged Critical Strike chance of all party or raid members within 45 yards by 3%." It's 3% more crit for you, and for every melee and ranged player in your group.

Cat Form arrives at level 20, with Claw, Rip, Shred and Prowl at the same level. From now on you level in Cat Form and use Bear Form when you need to tank. Rake comes at 24 and Dash at 26.

Why Feral Charge at 24? Only because row 4 needs 15 points in Feral, and Feral Charge is the most useful single point left in row 3. Shredding Attacks would make Shred cheaper, but you'll often be fighting mobs face to face while questing, where Shred can't be used.

Level 21 to 30 tip: In Cat Form, open with Rake, use Claw until you have four or five combo points, then finish with Rip. Rip's damage over time keeps ticking while you start on the next mob. If a mob hits hard, shift to Bear Form - shapeshifting also frees you from slows and roots.

Levels 31 to 40: Heart of the Wild and Rend and Tear

Points: 10, all Feral Combat - level 40 build.

  • 31-35: Heart of the Wild 5/5. "Increases your Intellect by 10%. In addition, while in Bear Form or Dire Bear Form your Stamina is increased by 20% and while in Cat Form your Strength is increased by 10%." Strength in Cat Form, Stamina in Bear Form and more mana in caster form for your heals.
  • 36-40: Rend and Tear 5/5. "Increases damage done by your melee abilities on Bleeding targets by 10%." Rake, Rip and Pounce all make the target bleed, so this is 10% more damage on almost every attack once your first bleed is up.

This bracket also brings Ferocious Bite (32), Ravage (32), Pounce (36) and Frenzied Regeneration (36), and at 40 Dire Bear Form, Innervate and Feline Grace.

Why not Natural Reaction? It's five points of dodge and Rage for Bear Form - great for a dungeon tank, but while questing you're in Cat Form most of the time. If you tank a lot of dungeons, swap it in for Feral Instinct and Brutal Impact later.

Level 31 to 40 tip: Ferocious Bite turns extra Energy into damage, so it's the best finisher on a mob that will die soon. Use Rip on a mob with a lot of health left, and Ferocious Bite to finish it.

Levels 41 to 50: Berserk, Natural Instinct and Furor

Points: 10 - 3 Feral Combat, 7 Restoration - level 50 build.

  • 41: Berserk. "Causes your Primal Bite ability to strike up to 3 targets, removes its cooldown, and increases the critical strike chance of your Combo Point-generating abilities by 100%. Clears and grants immunity to Fear effects for the duration. Lasts 15 sec." In Cat Form that's 100% more crit on Claw, Rake and Shred for 15 seconds - and with Blood Frenzy every crit adds an extra combo point. Use it on elites and tough pulls.
  • 42-43: Natural Instinct 2/2. "Increases the critical strike damage bonus of your melee abilities by 20% and increases your spell healing by 25% of your Intellect." Bigger crits in form, and better heals when you shift out.
  • 44-48: Furor 5/5 (Restoration). "Gives you a 100% chance to gain 10 Rage when shapeshifting into Bear Form or Dire Bear Form. Shapeshifting into Cat Form restores 100% of the Energy you had when last in Cat Form, plus 10 Energy per second spent outside Bear Form or Dire Bear Form, up to 100 Energy." This makes shifting out to heal much less costly: you come back into Cat Form with Energy to spend.
  • 49-50: Naturalist 2/5 (Restoration). "Reduces the cast time of your Healing Touch spell by 0.2 sec and increases all damage you deal by 2%."

Berserk needs 30 points in Feral and Leader of the Pack, so with this build you take it at 41 - the first level you can. Lacerate arrives at 42 for Bear Form and Barkskin at 44.

Level 41 to 50 tip: Save Berserk for the start of a hard fight: open from Prowl, press Berserk, and Claw your way to five combo points in two or three attacks. A five-point Rip or Ferocious Bite follows almost immediately.

Levels 51 to 60: Naturalist and the finishing touches

Points: 10 - 4 Restoration, 6 Feral Combat - level 60 build.

  • 51-53: Naturalist 5/5. "Reduces the cast time of your Healing Touch spell by 0.5 sec and increases all damage you deal by 5%." Five percent more damage on everything you do.
  • 54-56: Feral Instinct 3/3. "Increases damage done by your Swipe ability by 30% and reduces the chance enemies have to detect you while Prowling as if you were 3 levels higher." Better Swipe for Bear Form pulls, and stealthier Prowl openers.
  • 57-58: Brutal Impact 2/2. "Increases the stun duration of your Bash and Pounce abilities by 1 sec and reduces the cooldown of Bash by 30 sec." A shorter Bash cooldown is an interrupt and stun you can use far more often.
  • 59: Primal Bite. "Bite the target, dealing 100% normal damage plus 26 and generating a high amount of threat." A Bear Form attack for threat - and Berserk makes it hit up to three targets.
  • 60: Natural Shapeshifter 1/3. "Reduces the mana cost of all shapeshifting by 10%."

At 60 you have 0/40/11: a full Feral build with Berserk and Leader of the Pack, plus the Restoration talents that make shifting cheaper and every attack stronger. It's a good starting point for Feral at 60 - try it on our rotation simulator.

Druid leveling rotation

Your rotation changes twice while leveling - once at 10 when you get Bear Form, and again at 20 when you get Cat Form.

  • Levels 1-9 (caster): Wrath to pull, Moonfire (level 4) while the mob closes, then melee. Rejuvenation (4) heals you over time.
  • Levels 10-19 (Bear): pull with Wrath, shift to Bear Form, Demoralizing Roar, then Maul whenever you have the Rage. Use Enrage (12) for Rage and Bash (14) to stop casters. Swipe (16) hits up to three mobs.
  • Levels 20-31 (Cat): Rake, Claw to four or five combo points, Rip. Use Feral Charge to leap behind a mob for Shred.
  • Levels 32-60 (Cat): open from Prowl with Ravage or Pounce, Rake, Claw or Shred to five combo points, then Rip on fresh targets and Ferocious Bite to finish. Berserk on tough pulls.
  • When things go wrong: shift to Bear Form, Bash, Frenzied Regeneration, and Rejuvenation or Healing Touch once you're safe.

Between pulls, drink in caster form if you need mana, and heal with Regrowth or Healing Touch rather than standing still. Furor means you don't lose your Energy when you come back to Cat Form.

Druid spells to train while leveling

Visit your trainer every even level - Druids learn new ranks all the time. The spells that matter most for leveling, from the WoW Forever game files:

  • Level 1-10: Wrath, Healing Touch and Mark of the Wild (1), Moonfire and Rejuvenation (4), Thorns (6), Entangling Roots (8), and at 10 Bear Form (class quest), Maul, Growl and Demoralizing Roar.
  • Level 12-20: Enrage and Regrowth (12), Bash (14), Swipe and Aquatic Form (16), Faerie Fire and Hibernate (18), and at 20 Cat Form, Claw, Rip, Shred, Prowl, Rebirth and Omen of Clarity.
  • Level 24-40: Rake and Remove Curse (24), Dash and Abolish Poison (26), Travel Form and Tranquility (30), Ferocious Bite and Ravage (32), Pounce and Frenzied Regeneration (36), Dire Bear Form and Innervate (40).
  • Level 42-60: Lacerate (42), Barkskin (44), Gift of the Wild (50), and new ranks of everything above.

For which race is best, see our best race for Druids in WoW Forever guide.

Gear: what stats a leveling Druid wants

  • Agility: Attack Power, crit and dodge in Cat Form - your most important stat.
  • Strength: Attack Power in both forms, and Heart of the Wild raises it in Cat Form.
  • Stamina: Bear Form health, and a safety net when a Cat Form pull goes wrong.
  • Intellect: a bigger mana pool for shifting and healing - Heart of the Wild raises it too.
  • Critical strike: with Sharpened Claws, Blood Frenzy and Leader of the Pack, every crit is worth more combo points and Rage.

Leather with Agility and Strength is ideal. Check every weapon reward too - our items page lists every weapon and armor piece in the game.

Our Quest Upgrades tool finds quest rewards that are upgrades for your Druid as you level - paste your armory link or addon export. For pre-raid gear at 40, 50 and 60, see our Feral Druid BiS list, and for the full spec see our Feral Druid class guide.

Where to quest: a Druid leveling route

Druids level well in any zone, so follow the main quest hubs for your faction. Our quest pages list every quest in each zone with its level, objectives and rewards:

Consumables for Druid leveling

A Druid can heal, so you need less than most melee classes - but these make leveling faster and safer:

Druid leveling tips and tricks

  • Shift to break roots and slows. Every form's tooltip says it: shapeshifting frees you of Polymorph and movement impairing effects.
  • Heal before the pull, not during it. Rejuvenation before you shift to Cat Form keeps healing you while you fight.
  • Use Prowl to skip mobs. Sneak to the quest objective, then fight only what you need to.
  • Keep Rip for mobs with health. On a mob that's nearly dead, Ferocious Bite does the damage right away.
  • Bear Form for elites. If a quest mob hits hard, tank it in Bear Form and use Frenzied Regeneration.
  • Travel Form at 30. It's 40% faster outdoors - use it between every quest until you have a mount.
  • Group up for dungeons. Tanks are always in demand, and a Feral Druid can tank in Bear Form with this build.

Should you level as Balance or Restoration instead?

You can. Balance gets Moonkin Form at 40 and kills from range with Wrath, Starfire and Moonfire, but it runs out of mana much faster than Feral and has to drink after most fights. Restoration is a healing spec with Wild Growth at 40, strong in dungeons and slow at killing quest mobs alone. Feral's mix of stealth, two melee forms and cheap Energy-based damage makes it the fastest way to level a Druid. If you mostly level through dungeons, see our Restoration and Balance class guides.

WoW Forever Druid leveling guide: FAQ

  • What's the best Druid leveling spec in WoW Forever? Feral Combat, with Leader of the Pack, Rend and Tear and Berserk, and Furor and Naturalist from Restoration.
  • When do Druids get Cat Form? At level 20, from the trainer. Bear Form comes from a class quest at 10.
  • When do Druids get Travel Form? At level 30.
  • When do I get my first talent point? At level 10, then one every level - 51 at 60.
  • Should a leveling Druid tank dungeons? Yes, if you like it - this build has everything you need in Bear Form.
  • Can I see this build in a talent calculator? Yes - open the Druid leveling build.
Our take: Druid leveling in WoW Forever starts slow and gets very good. Levels 10 to 19 in Bear Form are steady rather than fast, but from 20 Cat Form, Prowl and cheap heals between pulls give a Druid almost no downtime. Berserk at 41 is a real power spike for elites and group quests. Train Travel Form the moment you hit 30, and keep a few potions for the pulls that go wrong.
