This WoW Forever Warlock leveling guide takes you from level 1 to 60 the fast way: as Affliction, with a Voidwalker tanking while your damage over time spells, Drain Life and Siphon Life do the work. It covers the full Warlock leveling talent build - every one of the 51 points, level by level - the reasons behind each choice, your DoT rotation, the spells to train, the consumables worth carrying, where to quest, and the tips that make a Warlock one of the classes with the least downtime while leveling in World of Warcraft: Forever.
Warlocks changed a lot from the original game. Curse of Agony is now Bane of Agony, Affliction has new talents such as Soul Harvest, Improved Drains, Soul Siphon and Wrack, Demonology adds Demonic Energies and Demonic Pact, and Destruction gets Bane of Havoc and Incinerate. You can also summon an Incubus as well as a Succubus. This guide uses the latest talent trees, from WoW Forever beta client build 1.60.1.70630.

Warlock strengths and weaknesses while leveling
Before the build, it helps to know what you're working with. A Warlock turns health into mana with Life Tap and mana back into health with Drain Life - and that loop is why Warlocks rarely need to sit down.
Strengths
- A pet tank. The Voidwalker (level 10) holds mobs while you cast from range.
- Life Tap. "Converts 30 Health into 30 Mana for you. Spirit increases the amount converted." With Drain Life and Siphon Life healing you, you can keep going without drinking.
- Damage over time. Corruption, Bane of Agony and Siphon Life keep working while you move to the next mob.
- Fear. Fear (8), Howl of Terror (40) and Death Coil (42) take mobs out of the fight.
- Healthstones. Create Healthstone (10) gives you a free healing potion every fight.
Weaknesses
- Cloth armor. Anything that gets past your pet hurts.
- Soul Shards. Your Voidwalker, Healthstones and other spells cost Soul Shards, so you have to collect them with Drain Soul.
- Slow starts. DoTs take time to tick, so a single Warlock kill takes longer than a Rogue's - the trick is moving on before the DoTs finish.
- Pet upkeep. If your pet dies, resummoning it takes a 10-second cast and a Soul Shard.

WoW Forever gives you your first talent point at level 10 and one more every level after that - 51 points by 60. Each row of a tree needs 5 more points in that tree before it opens, so the bottom row of the Affliction tree, Wrack, needs 30 points in that tree. Talents that teach a new ability put it straight into your spellbook.
Levels 10 to 20: Improved Corruption, Improved Life Tap and Improved Drains
Points: 11, all Affliction - level 20 build.
- 10-14: Improved Corruption 5/5. "Reduces the casting time of your Corruption spell by 2 sec and increases the damage it deals by 10%." Corruption has a 2 second cast, so at 5/5 it's instant - and you can cast it while running to the next mob.
- 15-16: Improved Life Tap 2/2. "Increases the amount of Mana awarded by your Life Tap spell by 20%." More mana from every Life Tap.
- 17-19: Improved Drains 3/3. "Increases health drained or damage done by your Drain Life, Drain Soul, and Wrack spells by 20%." Drain Life is your heal and your finisher.
- 20: Improved Bane of Agony 1/2. "Increases the damage done by your Bane of Agony by 5%."
Summon Voidwalker and Drain Soul arrive at level 10, Health Funnel at 12, Drain Life at 14, and at 20 Demon Armor, Rain of Fire and Summon Succubus or Incubus.
Why not Suppression? It adds hit and reduces your threat, but your Voidwalker holds threat for you, and Improved Drains adds damage and healing to the spell you'll channel most.
Levels 21 to 30: Fel Concentration, Nightfall and Siphon Life
Points: 10, all Affliction - level 30 build.
- 21: Improved Bane of Agony 2/2. "Increases the damage done by your Bane of Agony by 10%."
- 22-24: Fel Concentration 3/3. "Gives your Drain Life, Drain Mana, Drain Soul, and Wrack spells a 70% chance to not lose casting time when you take damage." Your drains keep going when a mob hits you.
- 25-26: Nightfall 2/2. "Gives your Corruption, Drain Soul, Drain Life, and Wrack spells a 4% chance to cause you to enter a Shadow Trance after damaging the opponent. The Shadow Trance reduces the casting time of your next Shadow Bolt spell by 100%." An instant Shadow Bolt now and then.
- 27-29: Malevolence 3/5. "Increases the critical effect chance of your Shadow spells by 3%."
- 30: Siphon Life. "Transfers 11 health from the target to the caster every 3 sec. Lasts 30 sec." An instant heal-over-time that's also damage - put it on every mob.
Drain Mana arrives at 24, and Summon Felhunter and Hellfire at 30.
Why Nightfall here? Corruption ticks on every mob you fight, and each tick has a chance to give you an instant Shadow Bolt - extra damage that only needs Corruption to be up.
Levels 31 to 40: Soul Siphon, Shadow Mastery and Wrack
Points: 10, all Affliction - level 40 build.
- 31-33: Soul Siphon 3/3. "Increases the damage done or health drained by your Drain Life, Drain Soul, and Wrack spells by 12% per each of your other Affliction effects active on the target, up to a maximum increase of 36%." With Corruption, Bane of Agony and Siphon Life on the mob, Drain Life hits much harder.
- 34: Malevolence 4/5. The 25th Affliction point, which opens the sixth row.
- 35-39: Shadow Mastery 5/5. "Increases the damage dealt or life drained by your Shadow spells by 10%." Every Affliction spell is Shadow damage.
- 40: Wrack. "Tears the target apart from within, inflicting 36 Shadow damage every 1 sec and increasing the damage they take from your other Shadow damage over time effects by 10% for 6 sec."
Wrack needs Siphon Life and 30 points in Affliction, so 40 is the earliest you can take it. Howl of Terror also arrives at 40.
Levels 41 to 50: Soul Harvest and Demonic Embrace
Points: 10 - 3 Affliction, 7 Demonology - level 50 build.
- 41: Malevolence 5/5. "Increases the critical effect chance of your Shadow spells by 5%."
- 42-43: Soul Harvest 2/2. "Killing a non-trivial target afflicted by your Drain Soul increases your Mana regeneration by 100% for 10 sec and allows 100% of normal Mana regeneration to continue while casting." Finishing mobs with Drain Soul now gives you Soul Shards and a lot of mana.
- 44-48: Demonic Embrace 5/5 (Demonology). "Increases your total Stamina by 15%." More health means more Life Taps.
- 49-50: Improved Voidwalker 2/3. "Increases the effectiveness of your Voidwalker's Torment, Consume Shadows, Sacrifice, and Suffering spells by 20%."
Death Coil arrives at 42 and Soul Fire at 48.
Why Demonology now? The rest of the Affliction tree - Grim Reach, Suppression, Pandemic and Curse of Exhaustion - adds less on every pull than a tougher Warlock and a tougher Voidwalker.
Levels 51 to 60: Improved Voidwalker, Fel Vitality and Demonic Energies
Points: 10, all Demonology - level 60 build.
- 51: Improved Voidwalker 3/3. "Increases the effectiveness of your Voidwalker's Torment, Consume Shadows, Sacrifice, and Suffering spells by 30%."
- 52-54: Fel Vitality 3/3. "Increases the maximum health and Mana of your Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Incubus, and Felhunter by 15%, and increases your maximum Mana by 15%."
- 55-56: Demonic Energies 2/2. "You heal your pet for 15% of all spell damage you deal. When you gain Mana from Life Tap, your summoned demon gains 100% of the Mana you gain." Your damage now heals your Voidwalker, so it lasts through much bigger pulls.
- 57-58: Master Summoner 2/2. "Reduces the casting time of your Imp, Voidwalker, Succubus, Incubus, and Felhunter Summoning spells by 4 sec and the Mana cost by 40%."
- 59-60: Improved Health Funnel 2/2. "Increases the amount of health transferred by your Health Funnel spell by 40%, reduces its health cost by 30%, and reduces all threat your Health Funnel generates by 100%. Allows Health Funnel to be used regardless of your demon's health."
At 60 you have 34/17/0: a full Affliction build with Siphon Life, Shadow Mastery and Wrack, plus a tougher Warlock and pet from Demonology. Try it on our rotation simulator.
Warlock leveling rotation
An Affliction Warlock's rotation is about getting DoTs up fast and letting them work:
- Levels 1-9: Imp, Immolate, Corruption (4), Shadow Bolt, then wand. Bane of Agony from 8.
- Levels 10-29: Voidwalker in, Corruption (instant), Bane of Agony, Immolate, then wand or Drain Life. Drain Soul to finish when you need a shard.
- Levels 30-39: add Siphon Life. On two mobs, DoT both and let your Voidwalker hold them.
- Levels 40-60: Corruption, Bane of Agony, Siphon Life, then Wrack and Drain Life. Shadow Bolt on Nightfall procs.
- When things go wrong: Fear the extra mob, Death Coil, Healthstone, Howl of Terror, or Health Funnel to keep your pet alive.
Between pulls, Life Tap to refill mana, then Drain Life or a Healthstone to refill health. You only need to drink after very long fights.
Warlock pets for leveling
Your demon is half of your damage and almost all of your defence while leveling. Each one has a job:
- Imp (level 1): a ranged pet that needs no Soul Shard. Blood Pact: "Increases party members' Stamina by 4." Use it until you get the Voidwalker, and in groups where someone else tanks.
- Voidwalker (10): your leveling tank. Torment: "Taunts the creature, increasing the chance that it will attack the Voidwalker." Suffering (24) taunts every mob around it, and Consume Shadows (18) heals it between fights.
- Succubus or Incubus (20): more damage, and Seduction (26) takes a humanoid out of the fight - but it can't hold mobs like the Voidwalker.
- Felhunter (30): the answer to caster mobs. Spell Lock (36): "Silences the enemy for 3 sec. If used on a casting target, it will counter the enemy's spellcast, preventing any spell from that school of magic from being cast for 6 sec."
The Voidwalker's Sacrifice (16) is a last resort: "Sacrifices the Voidwalker, giving its owner a shield that will absorb 318 damage for 30 sec. While the shield holds, spellcasting will not be interrupted by damage." Use it only when the fight is lost anyway, because you'll need a Soul Shard to bring the Voidwalker back.
Warlock spells to train while leveling
Visit your trainer every even level - Warlocks learn new ranks all the time. The spells that matter most for leveling, from the WoW Forever game files:
- Level 1-10: Shadow Bolt, Immolate, Demon Skin and Summon Imp (1), Corruption and Curse of Weakness (4), Life Tap (6), Bane of Agony and Fear (8), and at 10 Summon Voidwalker, Drain Soul and Create Healthstone.
- Level 12-20: Health Funnel (12), Drain Life (14), Unending Breath (16), Searing Pain and Create Soulstone (18), and at 20 Demon Armor, Rain of Fire, Ritual of Summoning and Summon Succubus or Incubus.

For which race is best, see our best race for Warlocks in WoW Forever guide.
Wands: free damage for a Warlock
A wand does damage without costing mana or health, so it's a Warlock's best friend while DoTs tick. Enchanters make a wand for almost every bracket:
- Lesser Magic Wand (level 5) and Greater Magic Wand (13)
- Lesser Mystic Wand (26) and Greater Mystic Wand (30)
- Twisted Nether Wand (37) and Dreambough Wand (43) - new in WoW Forever
- Lesser Eternal Wand (49), Greater Eternal Wand (55) and the BoP Brilliant Wand (55, Enchanters only)
Our items page lists every wand in the game with its stats and where it comes from.
Gear: what stats a leveling Warlock wants
- Spell damage (Shadow or all spells): more damage on every DoT and drain.
- Stamina: more health means more Life Taps - and Demonic Embrace raises it by 15%.
- Intellect: a bigger mana pool.
- Spirit: more health and mana regeneration, and Life Tap's tooltip says Spirit increases the amount converted.
- Wand DPS: free damage while your DoTs tick.

Consumables for Warlock leveling
A Warlock makes its own Healthstones and turns health into mana, so you need very little - but these help:
- Soul Shards: Soul Shard - collect them by finishing mobs with Drain Soul. Keep five or more at all times.
- Healthstones: make a new one every time you use one - it's a free healing potion.
- Water: for after very long pulls - Refreshing Spring Water (1), Ice Cold Milk (5), Melon Juice (15), Sweet Nectar (25), Moonberry Juice (35) and Morning Glory Dew (45).
- Healing Potions (Alchemy): Minor (1), Lesser (3), Healing Potion (12), Greater (21), Superior (35) and Major (45).
- Elixirs: Elixir of Wisdom (10), Elixir of Greater Intellect (37) and Elixir of Shadow Power (40).
- Wizard Oils (Enchanting): Minor Wizard Oil (5), Lesser Wizard Oil (30), Wizard Oil (40) and Brilliant Wizard Oil (45).
- Bandages (First Aid): Linen Bandage, Wool Bandage, Silk Bandage, Mageweave Bandage and Runecloth Bandage, plus the heavy versions of each.

Warlock leveling tips and tricks
- DoT and move on. Corruption is instant - put it on the next mob while the last one dies.
- Life Tap, then Drain Life. Trade health for mana, then drain it back from the mob.
- Drain Soul the last few percent. You always get a Soul Shard from a non-trivial mob it kills.
- Keep your pet alive. Health Funnel is cheap with Improved Health Funnel, and Demonic Energies heals your pet as you fight.
- Fear the extra mob. Your DoTs keep ticking while it runs - just watch that it doesn't run into more mobs.
- Make a Healthstone before every zone. It's a free potion you'd otherwise have to buy.
- Group up for dungeons. Warlocks bring strong damage, Healthstones and summons for the group.
Should you level as Demonology or Destruction instead?
You can. Demonology has Soul Link, Demonic Knowledge and Master Demonologist and the toughest pets. Destruction has Conflagrate, Shadowburn and Incinerate and kills faster, but needs more mana and takes more damage. Affliction's DoTs, drains and Life Tap loop give you the least downtime. See our Demonology and Destruction class guides for those specs at 60.
