GuideBest professions for Warlocks in WoW Forever: Tailoring, Enchanting, Herbalism and Alchemy

What are the best professions for Warlocks in WoW Forever? Ask any guide and you'll hear Tailoring and Enchanting - the cloth caster's classic pair. Our data agrees, but for more interesting reasons than "you wear cloth". In WoW Forever, Tailoring has a new set of cloth sets for the late 40s, Enchanting makes three Binds when picked up items that top the Warlock lists, and one Tailoring robe - the Robe of the Void - is still in the Warlock Raid lists, the only crafted item there you can't buy.

We went through our Affliction, Demonology and Destruction Warlock BiS lists - at level 40, level 50, in pre-raid gear at 60 and in raid gear - and counted every crafted item: which profession makes it, and whether it's Binds when picked up (only the crafter can use it) or Binds when equipped (anyone can sell it to you). Here's what that tells us about Warlock professions in WoW Forever.

Best professions for Warlocks in WoW Forever: the short answer

  • Best professions for Warlocks overall: Tailoring + Enchanting. Between them they make 12 of the 13 crafted items in every Warlock pre-raid list at 60, and 23 of 23 at level 50.
  • Tailoring's big prize: the Robe of the Void - Binds when picked up, the top pre-raid chest for all three specs, and still on the Raid lists.
  • Enchanting's big prize: three BoP items that top the Warlock lists - the Brilliant Wand, Truesilver Conduit and Radiant Staff.
  • Once you raid: keep Tailoring for the Robe and swap Enchanting for Herbalism or Alchemy to supply your own flasks.
  • The bottleneck: Mooncloth. The best Tailoring pieces need 5 to 8 each, with a 95-hour cooldown per Mooncloth.
  • Every Warlock: First Aid (it now makes Healing Potions) and Cooking (it builds the campfire).

How we picked the best professions for Warlocks

Every Warlock spec on our site has a BiS list with up to four ranked picks per slot - armor, weapons, off-hands and wands - for level 40, level 50, pre-raid gear at 60 and raid gear at 60. The lists come from the WoW Forever game files (build 1.60.1.70532) and each spec's own stat weights: hit and spell power first for all three, with Shadow damage weighted for Affliction and Demonology and Fire damage and crit for Destruction. For this guide we took every crafted item in those lists and noted which profession makes it and how it binds.

Binding decides whether a profession really matters. A Binds when equipped (BoE) item can be made by anyone and sold on the auction house, so all you need is gold. A Binds when picked up (BoP) item is soulbound to the crafter. A profession that makes BoP gear for your spec gives you something gold can't buy.

Stacked bar chart of crafted items in WoW Forever Warlock BiS lists by profession: Affliction 15, 23, 13 and 4 crafted at level 40, 50, pre-raid 60 and raid 60; Demonology 17, 23, 13 and 4; Destruction 16, 23, 13 and 5. Almost all Tailoring and Enchanting, with one BoP item still in each raid list
Crafted items in every Warlock BiS list, coloured by profession, with the number that bind when picked up.

The three Warlock specs share almost the same crafted picks - they all want hit, spell power, Intellect and Stamina from cloth - so the answer is the same for all of them. Crafted gear peaks at level 50, where 23 of the items in each list are crafted and 19 of those are BoP. At 60 the count drops to 13, and in raid gear to 4 or 5.

Tailoring: the best profession for Warlocks in WoW Forever

WoW Forever Tailoring has 471 recipes in the current game files, and it makes most of the crafted gear in every Warlock list: 13 to 15 entries at level 40, 21 at level 50 and 9 at level 60. If you only remember one thing about the best professions for Warlocks in WoW Forever, make it this: Tailoring is the one you keep from level 1 to your first raid.

Level 40 to 55: the new cloth sets

WoW Forever adds whole families of cloth gear for casters in their 40s and 50s. Each piece comes in several versions that share the same Intellect and Stamina but use a different special material:

  • Nether shoulders and cuffs (skill 210-220) - Netherflame, Netherfroth, Netherlight, Netherpearl, Nethershine and Nethergeld. The Netherflame Shoulders have +8 Intellect, +8 Stamina and +6 Spirit.
  • Waistcords, sandals, gloves, cords and slippers (skill 145-250) - Black, Fiery, Frothing and Golden versions, made with Black Pearl, Heart of Fire, Globe of Water or Golden Pearl. The Black Sandals have +9 Intellect and +13 Stamina.

Every one of these pieces in our lists is Binds when picked up, and at level 50 they fill most of the Warlock lists: the top shoulders, cuffs, waistcord and sandals all come from these families.

There's one thing our data can't tell you yet. Each version also carries one more stat that's tied to its special material - Heart of Fire for the Fiery and Netherflame pieces, Black Pearl for the Black and Netherpearl ones - and our game data shows it only as an unnamed stat number. The names suggest each version favours one spell school, which would make the Fiery and Netherflame pieces better for Destruction and the Black ones better for Affliction and Demonology. Until that's confirmed, our lists treat the versions as equal, so check the tooltip in game before you buy the materials.

Our take: if the extra stat turns out to be school spell power, Destruction Warlocks should make Fiery Waistcord and Fiery Sandals, and Affliction and Demonology the Black versions. It's an easy choice to make once you can see the tooltip.

Level 60: the Robe of the Void and the Mooncloth pieces

At 60, Tailoring makes 9 of the 13 crafted entries in each Warlock pre-raid list, and the best of them are excellent:

  • Robe of the Void - +10 Stamina, +9 Intellect, up to 46 spell power, and a use effect that heals your pet. The top pre-raid chest for all three specs, Binds when picked up.
  • Belt of the Archmage - +16 Intellect, +10 Stamina, up to 20 spell power and +14 Critical Strike Rating; the top pre-raid belt for all three specs.
  • Mantle of the Timbermaw - +13 Intellect, up to 17 spell power and +14 Critical Strike Rating; the top shoulders for all three.
  • Gloves of Spell Mastery - +10 Intellect, up to 9 spell power and +28 Critical Strike Rating; the top gloves for Destruction.
  • Dreamweave Circlet - +12 Spirit, +10 Intellect and up to 21 spell power; the top pre-raid helm for Affliction and Destruction.

Only the Robe of the Void is BoP - the rest you can buy. But the Robe matters a lot: it's the only BoP crafted item still in every Warlock Raid list, so it keeps Tailoring useful long after the rest of your pre-raid gear is replaced. Kami Labs came to the same conclusion: the robe is bound to the tailor and is for all three Warlock specs.

It isn't cheap: 40 Felcloth, 20 Demonic Runes, 12 Bolts of Runecloth, 8 Essence of Fire, 8 Essence of Undeath, 10 Viridian Dye and 2 Rune Thread, at skill 310.

Mooncloth: the Tailoring bottleneck

Most of the best Tailoring pieces at 60 need Mooncloth, and Mooncloth is slow. It's made from 2 Felcloth by a Tailor, and the game files give it a 95-hour cooldown - about four days per Mooncloth.

Bar chart of Mooncloth needed for WoW Forever Warlock crafts: Belt of the Archmage 8, Gloves of Spell Mastery 8, Flarecore Leggings 8, Mantle of the Timbermaw 5, Argent Shoulders 5, Sylvan Crown 2, with about 32, 20 and 8 days of cooldowns for one Tailor
Mooncloth needed per craft - and how long one Tailor would need to make it.

The Belt of the Archmage and Gloves of Spell Mastery each need 8 Mooncloth - about a month of cooldowns for one Tailor. The Mantle of the Timbermaw needs 5. If you want all three, that's 21 Mooncloth, or more than 80 days for one Tailor. Early on, Mooncloth will be one of the most valuable things a Tailor can make, and every Tailor should start their cooldown the day they reach skill 270.

Enchanting: three BoP items Warlocks want

Enchanting makes fewer Warlock items than Tailoring, but it makes the ones you can't buy. Three Enchanting items in the Warlock lists are Binds when picked up:

  • Brilliant Wand (skill 320) - +10 Intellect and up to 12 spell power; the top pre-raid wand for all three specs at 60.
  • Truesilver Conduit (skill 225) - +8 Intellect, +8 Stamina and up to 10 spell power; the top off-hand for all three specs at level 50 and at 60.
  • Radiant Staff (skill 225) - +19 Intellect and +19 Stamina; the top staff at level 50.

The Truesilver Conduit is the standout. A level 45 off-hand that's still the best pre-raid off-hand at 60 is rare, and it's cheap: Radiant Shards, Star Wood, Greater Nether Essence, Dream Dust and dyes. The Brilliant Wand is cheap too - one Greater Eternal Essence, 3 Illusion Dust, 2 Large Brilliant Shards and a Star Wood - but needs skill 320.

Enchanting also lets you enchant your own gear - including the Spell Power necklace enchant Kami Labs lists for Warlocks - and disenchant the cloth you make while levelling Tailoring, which is why the two professions level so well together. Its camp feature, the Enchanted Lute, adds Armor to everyone at your camp.

Blacksmithing: one sword, and you can buy it

The only other profession in our Warlock lists is Blacksmithing, with one item: the Sageblade, +14 Stamina, +6 Intellect and +10 Hit Rating. It's the top pre-raid main-hand for all three specs and appears on the Raid lists too, but it's Binds when equipped. Kami Labs notes that Tailoring + Blacksmithing would cover every crafted Warlock piece; we don't think one BoE sword is worth a profession slot. Buy it.

Affliction Warlock professions

Our Affliction Warlock BiS list has 13 crafted entries at 60 - 9 Tailoring, 3 Enchanting and the Sageblade - and crafted gear is the top pick in seven slots: the Dreamweave Circlet, Mantle of the Timbermaw, Robe of the Void, Belt of the Archmage, Sageblade, Truesilver Conduit and Brilliant Wand. Affliction weights Shadow damage heavily, so if the Black cloth pieces do carry Shadow spell power, they'll be its best choice in the 40s and 50s.

Our pick: Tailoring + Enchanting. Affliction lives on Life Tap and long fights, so once you raid, Herbalism or Alchemy for Flasks of Supreme Power and mana potions is the natural replacement for Enchanting.

Demonology Warlock professions

Our Demonology Warlock BiS list looks almost the same: 13 crafted entries, with crafted gear the top pick in six slots. In WoW Forever your demons scale with your gear, so every bit of spell power on your Robe of the Void and Belt of the Archmage helps your pet too - and the Robe's use effect heals your demon.

Our pick: Tailoring + Enchanting while you level and gear up, then Tailoring + Herbalism once you raid. Demonology is often the spec new Warlocks start with, and this pair is the easiest to level alongside it.

Destruction Warlock professions

Our Destruction Warlock BiS list has the most crafted top picks of the three - eight slots, including the Gloves of Spell Mastery, whose +28 Critical Strike Rating suits the fire spec. Destruction weights crit and Fire damage, so the Fiery and Netherflame cloth pieces are the ones to watch at level 50.

Our pick: Tailoring + Enchanting, then Tailoring + Herbalism for raiding. Destruction also has one extra crafted item in its Raid list - the Gloves of Spell Mastery - so Tailoring stays useful for Destruction a little longer than for the other two specs.

Raiding: what's still worth crafting

Our Warlock Raid lists have only 4 or 5 crafted items: the Robe of the Void, Belt of the Archmage, Flarecore Leggings, Sageblade and, for Destruction, the Gloves of Spell Mastery. The Robe is the only one that's BoP.

That's why we'd keep Tailoring once you raid, and swap Enchanting. Enchanting's three BoP items are all pre-raid gear, so at raid level its main value is enchants - which any Enchanter can put on for you. Gfinity recommends Tailoring + Herbalism (or Alchemy) for Warlocks at this stage, to "farm valuable raid reagents and transmutes". A Flask of Supreme Power takes 30 Dreamfoil, 10 Mountain Silversage and a Black Lotus - an Herbalist saves a lot of gold every raid week.

Soul bags: Tailoring's Warlock extras

Tailoring also makes the Warlock-only soul bags. In the game files:

All four are Binds when equipped, so you can buy them - but a Tailor can make their own, and other Warlocks will pay for them.

When each Warlock profession pays off

  • Levels 20-40: Tailoring. The level 40 lists already have 13 to 15 Tailoring entries, from the Robe of Power to the Black, Fiery and Frothing slippers and cords - most of them BoP. Enchanting adds the Glimmering Staff and Orb of Mystic Insight.
  • Levels 45-55: Tailoring and Enchanting together. This is where the two professions matter most: the Nether, Waistcord and Sandals families from Tailoring and the Radiant Staff and Truesilver Conduit from Enchanting fill most of your gear, all BoP.
  • Level 60, pre-raid: the Robe of the Void (Tailoring) and the Brilliant Wand (Enchanting) are the BoP pieces to make. Everything else - the Mooncloth pieces and the Sageblade - you can buy.
  • Raiding: Tailoring for the Robe and Mooncloth, plus Herbalism or Alchemy for flasks.

Do Warlocks need a gathering profession?

Not while levelling - and that's one of the best things about Tailoring + Enchanting. Neither needs a gathering profession. Tailors use cloth that drops from humanoids you're killing anyway, and Enchanters get their materials by disenchanting the gear you make or loot. You can level both while you quest, without ever stopping to gather.

That changes at 60. Gold matters more once you raid - for flasks, repairs and Mooncloth materials - and a gathering profession is the steadiest way to earn it. Herbalism is our pick, because it supplies the flasks and potions a raiding Warlock needs and its Incense Candle is a caster camp buff. If you'd rather make the flasks yourself, take Alchemy and buy the herbs. Mining and Skinning make gold too, but they don't help a Warlock in any other way.

First Aid and Cooking: free picks for every Warlock

  • First Aid now makes Healing Potions - from the basic one up to Major Healing Potion at skill 290 - so you don't need Alchemy for those. Its First Aid Kit camp feature gives 3 to 56 Stamina.
  • Cooking builds the campfire every camp starts with.
  • Fishing feeds Cooking, and its Fish Bowl camp feature gives 8% to all stats.

Camp features for Warlocks

Every profession builds a camp feature in WoW Forever, and anyone sitting nearby gets the buff for an hour. For a Warlock, the caster buffs matter most: Tailoring's Faction Banner (14 to 32 Spirit, your faction only), Herbalism's Incense Candle (2 to 25 Intellect) and Alchemy's Mana Well (10 to 29 mana every 5 seconds). The Tailoring + Herbalism pair we recommend for raiding brings two of the three.

Making gold as a Warlock

Tailoring + Enchanting is one of the best gold pairs for a caster. The BoE items to watch:

Gfinity adds one more saving: Warlocks "save gold by getting their class mount for free early on", which leaves more gold for your professions.

Best professions for Warlocks in WoW Forever: FAQ

  • What are the best professions for Warlocks in WoW Forever? Tailoring + Enchanting while levelling and gearing up, then Tailoring + Herbalism (or Alchemy) once you raid.
  • Is Tailoring worth it for Warlocks? Yes. It makes most of the crafted gear in every Warlock list, the cloth sets in your 40s and 50s are BoP, and the Robe of the Void is BoP and still in the Raid lists.
  • Is Enchanting worth it for Warlocks? Yes, before raiding. It makes the BoP Brilliant Wand, Truesilver Conduit and Radiant Staff - all top picks.
  • If I can only pick one, Tailoring or Enchanting? Tailoring. It makes far more Warlock gear at every level, and its BoP Robe of the Void lasts into raids. Enchanting's BoP items are excellent, but they're all pre-raid.
  • Do Warlocks need Blacksmithing? No. The Sageblade is the only Blacksmithing item in our lists, and it's BoE.
  • Do gathering professions give passive bonuses in WoW Forever? Blizzard hasn't confirmed any. Lists of Herbalism or Mining perks have been traced to an AI-generated post - see our professions guide.
Our take: the best professions for Warlocks in WoW Forever are Tailoring + Enchanting, and the data makes it an easy call - between them they make almost every crafted piece a Warlock wears, including four BoP items that top the lists. The one real decision comes at 60: Enchanting's BoP items are all pre-raid gear, while Tailoring's Robe of the Void lasts into raids. So keep Tailoring, start your Mooncloth cooldown the day you can, and swap Enchanting for Herbalism when your pre-raid set is done.
