GuideBest professions for Priests in WoW Forever: Tailoring, Enchanting, Herbalism and Alchemy

What are the best professions for Priests in WoW Forever? Tailoring and Enchanting is the classic answer, and our data agrees - but Priests are the one cloth class where the answer depends on your spec. Shadow Priests wear the same caster cloth as Mages and Warlocks. Holy and Discipline Priests get their own healing gear: the BoP Truefaith Vestments, a whole Mooncloth set, gold-threaded Gilded and Nethergeld pieces for the 40s and 50s, and an Enchanting off-hand that's still the best ranged-slot pick in raids.

We went through our Discipline, Holy and Shadow Priest BiS lists - at level 40, level 50, in pre-raid gear at 60 and in raid gear - and counted every crafted item: which profession makes it, and whether it's Binds when picked up (only the crafter can use it) or Binds when equipped (anyone can sell it to you). Here's what that means for Priest professions in WoW Forever.

Best professions for Priests in WoW Forever: the short answer

  • Best professions for Priests overall: Tailoring + Enchanting. They make 25 of the 26 crafted items in our Holy and Discipline pre-raid lists at 60, and all 11 for Shadow.
  • Healing Priests: Tailoring makes the BoP Truefaith Vestments - the top pre-raid chest and still on the Raid lists - plus the Mooncloth healing set.
  • Shadow Priests: the same cloth as Mages and Warlocks, with BoP Enchanting picks - the Brilliant Wand and Truesilver Conduit.
  • Once you raid: healers keep Tailoring for the Truefaith Vestments and swap Enchanting for Herbalism; Shadow can drop both for Alchemy + Herbalism.
  • For PvP: Tailoring + Engineering is the popular alternative.
  • Every Priest: First Aid (it now makes Healing Potions) and Cooking (it builds the campfire).

How we picked the best professions for Priests

Every Priest spec on our site has a BiS list with up to four ranked picks per slot - armor, weapons, off-hands and wands - for level 40, level 50, pre-raid gear at 60 and raid gear at 60. The lists come from the WoW Forever game files (build 1.60.1.70532) and each spec's own stat weights. Holy and Discipline weight mana regeneration highest of all, then healing power; Holy values Spirit a little more, because Spiritual Guidance turns Spirit into healing. Shadow weights hit, spell power and Shadow damage, like a Warlock.

For this guide we took every crafted item in those lists and checked which profession makes it and how it binds. A Binds when equipped (BoE) item can be made by anyone and sold on the auction house. A Binds when picked up (BoP) item is soulbound to the crafter. A profession that makes BoP gear for your spec gives you something gold can't buy.

Stacked bar chart of crafted items in WoW Forever Priest BiS lists by profession: Discipline 18, 18, 26 and 3 crafted at level 40, 50, pre-raid 60 and raid 60; Holy 17, 18, 26 and 3; Shadow 15, 21, 11 and 2. Almost all Tailoring and Enchanting
Crafted items in every Priest BiS list, coloured by profession, with the number that bind when picked up.

Two patterns stand out. Healing Priests use more crafted gear at 60 than at 50 - 26 entries in each pre-raid list, 12 of them BoP - while Shadow drops to 11. And in raid gear, crafted items almost disappear: 3 for the healers, 2 for Shadow.

Tailoring: the best profession for Priests in WoW Forever

WoW Forever Tailoring has 471 recipes in the current game files and makes most of the crafted gear in every Priest list: 13 to 15 entries at level 40, 14 to 19 at level 50, and 19 for healers at 60. Cloth drops from the humanoids you kill while questing, so it's also one of the cheapest professions to level.

Levels 40 to 55: Gilded and Nethergeld, the healer cloth

WoW Forever adds families of BoP cloth for casters in their 40s and 50s, each in several versions with a different special material. For healers, the versions made with Gold Bars are the ones that matter - they're the only ones that carry healing power in our data:

  • Nethergeld shoulders and cuffs (skill 210-220). The Nethergeld Cuffs have up to 20 healing, +7 Intellect, +7 Stamina and +5 Spirit - and they're still the top pre-raid bracers for Holy and Discipline at 60.
  • Gilded cord, waistcord, gloves, sandals, slippers and handwraps (skill 145-250). Gilded Gloves have up to 29 healing, +10 Intellect, +9 Stamina and +8 Spirit; Gilded Sandals up to 31 healing.

At level 50, Gilded and Nethergeld pieces are the top picks in five slots for both healing specs: shoulders, cuffs, gloves, waistcord and sandals. 14 of the 18 crafted entries in those lists are BoP.

They need a lot of gold: 10 Gold Bars for the Nethergeld Cuffs, 12 for the Gilded Waistcord and 14 for the Gilded Sandals. A Miner friend - or an alt with Mining - will save you a lot.

Shadow Priests: the other versions carry one extra stat that our data shows only as an unnamed number, tied to the material. The Black and Netherpearl pieces, made with Black Pearl, are likely the Shadow ones - and Kami Labs lists the Netherpearl Cuffs as bound to the tailor for Shadow Priests. Check the tooltip in game before you buy materials.

Level 60: Truefaith Vestments and the Mooncloth set

At 60, healing Priests get one of the best crafted sets of any healer. The Truefaith Vestments are the centrepiece: up to 73 healing, +16 Spirit and +14 Stamina, and they reduce the cooldown of Fade by 2 seconds. They're the top pre-raid chest for Holy and Discipline, they're still on both Raid lists, and they're Binds when picked up.

Around them is a full Mooncloth healing set, all BoE:

In total, crafted gear is the top pick in nine slots of the Holy and Discipline pre-raid lists. Two of those - the Truefaith Vestments and Nethergeld Cuffs - are BoP.

Mooncloth: the Priest bottleneck

Nearly all of that set needs Mooncloth, and Mooncloth is slow: a Tailor makes it from 2 Felcloth, and the game files give it a 95-hour cooldown.

Bar chart of Mooncloth needed for a healing Priest's crafted set in WoW Forever: Truefaith Vestments 8, Mooncloth Circlet 6, Mooncloth Gloves 6, Mooncloth Shoulders 5, Mooncloth Vest 4, Mooncloth Leggings 4, Mooncloth Boots 4 - 37 in total, about 146 days of cooldowns for one Tailor
A full crafted healing set needs 37 Mooncloth - far more than one Tailor can make quickly.

The Truefaith Vestments alone need 8 Mooncloth - about a month of cooldowns. The top three Mooncloth pieces add 17 more. No single Tailor will make all of it in time. The good news, as Kami Labs points out: "Mooncloth itself is not bound: a tailor can buy it." So start your own cooldown the day you reach skill 270, buy the rest, and make the Truefaith Vestments first - they're the one piece you can't get any other way.

Enchanting: Torch of Light and the BoP staves

Enchanting makes six entries in each healing Priest list at 60 and three for Shadow. The most important is the Torch of Light: up to 22 healing and +15 Spirit in the ranged slot. It's the top pre-raid pick for Holy and Discipline - and the top pick in their Raid lists too. It's BoE, though, so anyone can buy it. It needs 2 Malleable Essence of Nature, from disenchanting items from Hyjal Summit or Barrow Deeps.

The BoP Enchanting items are pre-raid gear:

Enchanting also levels perfectly with Tailoring. As Gfinity puts it, "Crafting extra robes and immediately disenchanting them for Enchanting mats creates a self-sustaining loop." Its camp feature, the Enchanted Lute, adds Armor for everyone nearby.

Leatherworking: one cloak you can buy

The only other profession in our Priest lists is Leatherworking, with one item: the Hide of the Wild, a cloak with +10 Intellect, +8 Stamina and up to 42 healing. It's the top pre-raid cloak for Holy and Discipline and stays on their Raid lists, but it's Binds when equipped - buy it rather than level Leatherworking for it.

Holy Priest professions

Our Holy Priest BiS list has 26 crafted entries at 60 - 19 Tailoring, 6 Enchanting and the Leatherworking Hide of the Wild cloak - and crafted gear is the top pick in nine slots. Holy weights mana regeneration and Spirit highly, and its gear shows it: the Mooncloth Circlet, Shoulders and Truefaith Vestments all carry Spirit.

That makes the camp buffs worth a look. Tailoring's Faction Banner gives 14 to 32 Spirit to your faction, and Alchemy's Mana Well gives 10 to 29 mana every 5 seconds - both are useful to a Holy Priest. Our pick: Tailoring + Enchanting while levelling, then Tailoring + Herbalism once you raid.

Discipline Priest professions

Our Discipline Priest BiS list is almost the same as Holy's: 26 crafted entries and nine crafted top picks at 60. The difference is small - Discipline weights Intellect slightly more than Spirit, so the Radiant Staff edges out the Dreamstaff at level 50. Discipline leans on instant spells - Power Word: Shield on a 4-second cooldown and Penance - and Mental Agility makes them cheaper, but they still cost mana, so mana regeneration is just as important. Our pick is the same: Tailoring + Enchanting, then Tailoring + Herbalism.

Shadow Priest professions

Our Shadow Priest BiS list looks like a Mage's or Warlock's. It has 11 crafted entries at 60 - 8 Tailoring and 3 Enchanting - with the Dreamweave Circlet, Mantle of the Timbermaw, Belt of the Archmage, Truesilver Conduit and Brilliant Wand as top picks. Only the three Enchanting items - those two and the Radiant Staff - are BoP.

In raids, Shadow has just two crafted items - the Belt of the Archmage and Flarecore Leggings - and neither is BoP. So Shadow is the Priest spec that needs its professions least at 60. Our pick: Tailoring + Enchanting while levelling, then Alchemy + Herbalism for flasks once you raid.

Shadow shares almost all of its crafted gear with Mages and Warlocks - the Mooncloth pieces, the Dreamweave Circlet and the Enchanting wand and off-hand. The difference is the chest: Mages get the BoP Robe of the Archmage and Warlocks the BoP Robe of the Void, but Shadow Priests have no BoP crafted robe in their lists at all. That's the main reason the best professions for Priests in WoW Forever split by spec: a healer has a reason to keep Tailoring at 60, and a Shadow Priest doesn't. See our Warlock and Mage profession guides for the same cloth from the other side.

Raiding: what's still worth crafting

Our Holy and Discipline Raid lists have three crafted items each: the Truefaith Vestments (BoP), the Torch of Light (the top ranged pick, BoE) and the Hide of the Wild (BoE). Shadow's Raid list has two, both BoE.

That's why healers should keep Tailoring once they raid - the Truefaith Vestments last - and swap Enchanting for Herbalism or Alchemy. Healers lean on mana more than anyone in a raid, and a Flask of Distilled Wisdom takes 30 Dreamfoil, 10 Icecap and a Black Lotus. An Herbalist saves a lot of gold every raid week.

Tailoring + Engineering for PvP

Both Gfinity and Kami Labs suggest Tailoring + Engineering for Priests who play PvP. Gfinity's reason: Engineering "gives Priests crucial movement speed boosts and defensives" to make up for their low mobility. Kami Labs adds that "It is a player's choice, the BiS List does not measure it." We agree on both counts - our lists have no Engineering items for Priests, so this is about utility, not gear.

When each Priest profession pays off

  • Levels 20-40: Tailoring, with a little Enchanting - 13 to 15 Tailoring entries in every level 40 list.
  • Levels 45-55: Tailoring and Enchanting together. Gilded and Nethergeld for healers, the other cloth families for Shadow, and the BoP staves and off-hands from Enchanting.
  • Level 60, pre-raid: Truefaith Vestments for healers; Brilliant Wand and Truesilver Conduit for Shadow.
  • Raiding: Tailoring + Herbalism for healers, Alchemy + Herbalism for Shadow.

Do Priests need a gathering profession?

Not while levelling - Tailoring uses cloth you loot, and Enchanting uses materials from disenchanting, so you can level both while you quest. The one exception is the Gold Bars for the Gilded and Nethergeld pieces; if you don't have a Miner to supply them, the auction house will.

At 60, Herbalism is the most useful gathering profession for a Priest: it supplies the flasks and mana potions every raid needs, and its Incense Candle gives 2 to 25 Intellect at camp.

Levelling Tailoring and Enchanting together

The reason these two professions suit a Priest so well is that they feed each other. A simple way to level both:

  • Make what you can wear. At every stage, craft the BoP cloth your level can use - the low-level sets in your 20s and 30s, then the Gilded or Nethergeld pieces (healers) or the Black and Netherpearl ones (Shadow) in your 40s and 50s.
  • Disenchant the rest. Every extra piece you make for skill-ups becomes dust and essences for Enchanting, so you rarely need to buy Enchanting materials.
  • Turn cloth into bolts early. Bolt of Runecloth is a skill 210 trainer recipe, and Runecloth is the base of nearly every level 60 Tailoring pattern, including the Truefaith Vestments.
  • Start Mooncloth at 270. Every Mooncloth you make from then on is one you don't have to buy later.

By the time you reach 60, you'll have the BoP Enchanting staves and off-hands behind you and Tailoring ready for the Truefaith Vestments - which is exactly when the pair has done its job.

Camp features for Priests

Every profession builds a camp feature in WoW Forever, and anyone sitting nearby gets the buff for an hour. The ones that help a Priest most:

  • Tailoring - Faction Banner: 14 to 32 Spirit for players of your faction - especially good for Holy.
  • Alchemy - Mana Well: 10 to 29 mana every 5 seconds - for every healer.
  • Herbalism - Incense Candle: 2 to 25 Intellect.
  • Skinning - Camp Chair: 2% critical strike chance with spells and attacks - the one to look for as Shadow.
  • First Aid - First Aid Kit: 3 to 56 Stamina, which a cloth wearer always appreciates.

Each player can add one feature to a camp, and the buffs don't stack with the class buffs they copy, so check what your group already brings before you set up.

First Aid and Cooking: free picks for every Priest

  • First Aid now makes Healing Potions - from the basic one up to Major Healing Potion at skill 290 - so you don't need Alchemy for those. Its First Aid Kit camp feature gives 3 to 56 Stamina.
  • Cooking builds the campfire every camp starts with.
  • Fishing feeds Cooking, and its Fish Bowl camp feature gives 8% to all stats.

Making gold as a Priest

Priest Tailors have some of the most valuable crafts in the game to sell:

Best professions for Priests in WoW Forever: FAQ

  • What are the best professions for Priests in WoW Forever? Tailoring + Enchanting while levelling. Once you raid, Tailoring + Herbalism for Holy and Discipline, Alchemy + Herbalism for Shadow.
  • Is Tailoring worth it for healing Priests? Yes. It makes the BoP Truefaith Vestments and Nethergeld Cuffs - both top picks at 60 - and the Mooncloth healing set.
  • Is Enchanting worth it for Priests? Yes, before raiding. It makes BoP staves and off-hands for the 40s and 50s, and the Torch of Light, the top healer ranged item even in raids.
  • If I can only pick one, Tailoring or Enchanting? Tailoring for healers - it makes the Truefaith Vestments and most of your gear. For Shadow it's closer, because Shadow's BoP picks at 60 come from Enchanting.
  • What's the best profession for a PvP Priest? Tailoring + Engineering, for Engineering's movement and defensive tools.
  • Do gathering professions give passive bonuses in WoW Forever? Blizzard hasn't confirmed any. Lists of Herbalism or Mining perks have been traced to an AI-generated post - see our professions guide.
Our take: the best professions for Priests in WoW Forever are Tailoring + Enchanting, but healers get far more out of Tailoring than Shadow does. The Truefaith Vestments are the most important crafted item a Priest can make - BoP, the best pre-raid chest, and still in your Raid list - so get your Mooncloth cooldown going early and make them first. Shadow Priests can treat Tailoring as a levelling profession and switch to Alchemy + Herbalism at 60 without losing anything they can't buy.
