What is World of Warcraft Forever? In one line: it's the original 2004 World of Warcraft - Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, level 60 - with brand-new content added on top, and it launches on November 4, 2026. It's the "Classic+" players asked Blizzard for since WoW Classic came out in 2019. Here's what WoW Forever is, what's new compared to Classic and retail WoW, what it costs and how to start.

What is WoW Forever, in short?
- A new version of World of Warcraft, next to Modern (retail) WoW and WoW Classic - it doesn't replace either.
- The classic world, expanded: the same Azeroth and level 60 cap, with new zones, quests, dungeons, raids and a new race.
- Included with a WoW subscription - there's no separate box to buy.
- World of Warcraft Forever release date: November 4, 2026.
Blizzard's own description
Blizzard announced World of Warcraft Forever at BlizzCon 2026. It called Forever “our new, third World of Warcraft experience alongside Modern and Classic,” and executive producer Holly Longdale described it as “a new permanent home, a new beginning that never ends.” Windows Central summed it up as Blizzard's take on Classic+: old-school, social WoW that grows sideways at level 60 instead of adding new levels.
What's new in WoW Forever compared to Classic
According to GameSpot and Blizzard's announcements, World of Warcraft Forever adds:
- Three new zones in places that were on the 2004 map but never open, plus revamped classic zones.
- Up to 1,000 new quests.
- Nine new dungeons from level 13 to 60 - see all 9 new dungeons.
- New raids: Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit, opening with Onyxia's Lair on December 9 (raid schedule). Molten Core comes later, revamped.
- A new battleground, the Battle for the Darkspear Islands.
- A new race: the Skyborne, who start on their own island and can join the Alliance or the Horde.
- Class changes: new talents and abilities for all nine classes, and new race and class combinations.
- Updated graphics with new lighting, and a switch to keep the classic look.
Is WoW Forever the same as WoW Classic?
No. WoW Classic stays as it is for players who want the original game unchanged, GameSpot reports. Forever starts from the same world but keeps adding to it - new content, new class mechanics and a level cap that stays at 60. It's also not retail WoW: there are no new expansions that raise the level cap.
Is WoW Forever free?
Not free, but there's nothing extra to buy: Forever is included with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. The optional packs add the Skyborne race and extras - see our World of Warcraft Forever price guide.
Who is World of Warcraft Forever for?
Mainly players who loved original WoW or Classic and want something new in that world, plus lapsed and brand-new players who want a slower, more social MMO. Our who is WoW Forever for article goes deeper.
