GuideThe three WoW Forever Legacy trees

The WoW Forever Legacy system is one of the biggest new features in World of Warcraft Forever - and one of the most searched. It rewards you for doing everything the game offers: levelling every class, maxing professions, exploring, PvP, dungeons and raids. Here's how Legacy points, Legacy talents and the Legacy trees work, and how to spend your points.

What is the WoW Forever Legacy system?

Blizzard sums it up in one line: “The Legacy System has three major components: Legacy Challenges, Legacy Perks, and Legacy Rewards.” It's an account-wide progression system that sits next to your class talents, and Blizzard describes it as “focusing on exploring everything the game has to offer, rather than power progression alone.”

How to get Legacy points

You earn Legacy points by completing Legacy challenges. “Each challenge completed earns you one Legacy Point.” At launch there are 65 challenges in six categories, Icy Veins lists:

  • Classes: reach level 25, 45 and 60 for the first time on each class - so levelling alts pays off.
  • Tradeskills: reach skill 150, 225 and 300 in each primary profession.
  • Player vs. Player: PvP ranks, Exalted with PvP factions and Field of Honor weeks.
  • Adventure: uncover the whole map, zone by zone.
  • Dungeons: clear groups of dungeons.
  • Raids: defeat every boss in Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit, and Onyxia.

You unlock the system with your first point - usually when your first character reaches level 25, or by reaching 150 in a crafting profession or exploring the whole world map, per Blizzard.

How the WoW Forever Legacy system works: complete Legacy challenges in six categories, earn account-wide Legacy points, spend up to 16 per character, and unlock rewards at 15, 25, 40 and 55 points
How Legacy points, Legacy talents and Legacy rewards fit together.

Legacy talents and the Legacy trees

Legacy points are spent on Legacy talents (Blizzard calls them Legacy Perks) in three Legacy trees, separate from your class talents. Icy Veins lists seven talents in each tree:

  • Adventure tree: levelling and exploring - for example Well Rested (faster rested experience) and Frequent Flier (cheaper flight paths).
  • Professions tree: tradeskills and gathering - Working Overtime (more skill-ups) and Bountiful Harvest (more Scarce materials).
  • Resourcefulness tree: reagents, durability, reputation and Honor - Reinforce (less durability loss on death) and Diplomat (more reputation).

How many Legacy points can you spend?

Points are earned for your whole account, but each character spends up to 16 - on its own, so spending on one character doesn't take points from another. One character can earn up to 29 points by itself, so alts aren't required, Blizzard says. At launch, the account total goes up to 65.

Legacy rewards

  • 15 points: Replica Ironforge Air Rifle (toy)
  • 25 points: Spectral Bear Cub (pet)
  • 40 points: Spectral Bear Tabard
  • 55 points: Reins of the Spectral Bear (mount)

According to Icy Veins, you claim them from Innkeeper Wiley in Ratchet.

Legacy and Hardcore

Hardcore isn't available at launch. When it arrives, challenges you complete in Hardcore count for your Legacy progress everywhere, and Blizzard plans 12 Hardcore-only challenges; progress made outside Hardcore doesn't carry into it. Blizzard also plans new challenges, Legacy talents and rewards with each content release.

Tip: for your first character, the Adventure tree's levelling talents get the most use. Your Legacy points come back with every new character, so you can try a different Legacy tree build on an alt. Beta testers got 16 points to try the system: Blizzard's Kaivax wrote, “In a future week of the Beta, we’re planning to grant all testers 16 Legacy points so that the system can be tested”.
Our take: the WoW Forever Legacy system is a smart answer to "what do I do at 60?" - it rewards alts, professions and exploring without adding raw power. A 16-point cap per character keeps it from turning into a grind you have to finish.
