What is the best level 30 DPS spec in WoW Forever? Level 30 was the beta's level cap, it's where every class has its first big talents, and it's a good test of which specs are strong while levelling. We simulated all 20 damage specs at level 30, and one spec is far ahead of the rest: Beast Mastery Hunter is the best level 30 DPS in our sims, 42% ahead of second place.
Best level 30 DPS: the short answer
- Best level 30 DPS spec: Beast Mastery Hunter with 147 DPS.
- Second and third: Marksmanship Hunter (103.2) and Arcane Mage (103.1) - almost tied.
- Best melee DPS at 30: Enhancement Shaman (90.6), then Fury (87.5) and Arms Warrior (83.8).
- Best caster at 30: Arcane Mage - the next caster, Shadow Priest, is eighth (73.3).
How we simulated level 30
At level 30 every spec of a role wears the same standard gear, so the ranking compares the classes and talents, not the items. Each spec uses our default level 30 talents, its best race with racials, and its rotation from the WoW Forever rotation guide, against a boss three levels higher, over 1,000 fights of 60 seconds.

Why Beast Mastery Hunter is the best level 30 DPS
The Beast Mastery Hunter doesn't fight alone. In our level 30 sim the pet's melee does 24.7% of the damage and its Claw 8.9%, and Forever's new Summon Hawk adds another 28.9% - so about 62% of the Hunter's damage comes from its animals. Auto Shot does most of the rest (27.8%). And the Beast Mastery Hunter never runs out of mana in our sim.
Marksmanship Hunter is second (103.2) but does run out of mana for a few seconds in our sim, while Arcane Mage (103.1) already has Arcane Wrath at 30 - it's 19.3% of an Arcane Mage's damage at this level.
Best melee and caster DPS at level 30
Melee specs do well at level 30. Enhancement Shaman is fourth (90.6), with Stormstrike and Windfury adding 18.0% and 15.3% to its two-hander's swings, and the two Warrior specs are fifth and sixth. Assassination Rogue (73.7) is the best Rogue.
Most casters are still finding their feet. Shadow Priest (73.3), Elemental Shaman (73.1) and the Warlocks (Destruction 72.2, Affliction 70.8) sit in the middle, and Frost Mage (60.9) and Demonology Warlock (58.9) are near the bottom. Survival Hunter is last (53.7).
How the ranking changes from level 30 to 60
The best level 30 DPS isn't the best at 60. Arcane Mage takes first place at level 50 (373) and keeps it at 60 (686.4 in raid gear). Shadow Priest climbs from eighth at 30 to third at 50 and second at 60. Beast Mastery Hunter stays near the top all the way (second at 50, third at 60), while Enhancement Shaman drops from fourth at 30 to the middle of the pack at 50 and 60.
